Sunset at Singistugorna
Lapland, Sweden

In 1978 I joined a group trekking in northern Sweden where a well marked network of footpaths and a good hut system eliminates the need to carry camping gear.  At the Singistugorna hut our route took us onto the famous Kungsleden, a 450 km walking route through some of the wildest parts of northern Sweden.  We had planned to finish the tour with an ascent of Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden.  Unfortunately, after 10 days of glorious sunshine, our arrival at the Kebnekaise Fjellstation heralded two days of torrential rain which completely scuppered our plans.
