Galloway Hills, Scotland.

Robert the Bruce and his tiny guerrilla army were hemmed in to these wild hills by thousands of English troops.  With each successful raid he was able to demoralise the enemy and increase his support, until he was able to break out, finally thrashing the English at Bannockburn in 1314.
