18 Feb 2001 Bowfell, via The Band (the east ridge). Thick fog blanketed most of north west England this morning, but we soon got above it into the sunshine. On the western side of the mountains the fog had lifted to low cloud, which was spilling over the ridges leaving the summits clear. This cloud was steadily creeping further east and rising, and we only just got to the summit in time to snatch a few photos - fifteen minutes later we were enveloped in the cloud.
The Langdale Pikes from 'The Band'.
Scafell Pike, just about to disappear in the rising cloud layer.
The awesome scene that greeted us from the top of The Band. The Langdale Pikes are on the left,
Pike o'Blisco is the sharp peak in the centre, and Crinkle Crags are on the right.
